Francis Verdier Residence was built in 1911 at 7247 West Saanich Road and was designated of Heritage Importance in 2015 by Donald Luxton & Associates Ltd. Finlayson Bonet Architecture was tasked with converting the house into 8 rental units. We had to relocate the building to the opposite side of the property and add a basement. Our work was to preserve the architectural elements and heritage character of the home as well as necessary code and seismic updates and installed a fire suppression system. We took down the original stone cladding, cataloged each piece, restored the stain glass windows and wood cladding, then re-installed.
The buildings performance and mechanical equipment have been updated to the latest technology as well improved the envelope with highly insulated walls. Alongside Stride Properties and Sargent Construction we successfully completed the project by implementing innovative solutions to maintain the beauty and character of this residence.
