2023 Award of Merit – Community Institutional for The Star Cinema: Capital Regional Building Awards
Cameo is a mixed use development with one of Canada’s only combination of residential living and a movie theatre all under the same roof. 6 storeys with 48 residential units and the main floor containing a mix of commercial units including a movie theatre with 3 different screening rooms. This project features oversized windows and balconies with ocean views from 3 of 4 directions. An indoor / outdoor amenity area for residents to come together and build community relationships within the building.
The Star Cinema Theatre, a staple of the Saanich peninsula community, has undergone a massive upgrade and transformation for local film enthusiasts. With 3 theatres, high definition screens and audio systems, gender neutral bathrooms and assisted listening devices, this local entertainment hub has taken the small seaside community into the modern technological world. With an emphasis on hosting a wide variety of films including blockbusters, independent films and documentaries, the Star Cinema is the new entertainment hub in Sidney.
Unique elements of the new Star Cinema include progressive gender neutral washrooms, assisted listening devices for the hearing impaired, 3 boutique style theatres, high definition screens and the newest audio visual technology.
